There are a lot of quotes out there for every sport so many people can find them and find to relate about them but I’m going to be focusing on quotes that myself and other field hockey players can relate to. It may be hard to find only 7 because there are so many out there but I’ll choose the ones that hit my heart the hardest.
These quotes are scored on how I relate to them and how I could have related to them throughout my field hockey career.
1.
I chose this quote because it really stood out to me. I have played for a very long time and the amount of time that I played in a game and the amount of time I spent practicing my skills always depended on my desire to play and get better. It never really depended on how much skill I had or when I decided to use my skill, it was about always giving 110% on the field and off of the field. I always have the desire to play and to be better but my skills weren't the reason for my playing time and the extra practice time I put in. It was all about the love I had for the sport and the desire I had to play.
2.
I chose this quote because you can understand what it is saying in a quick glance no matter what sport you play. When you win you understand that you and your team are good but when you make mistakes during the game that could have been avoided you understand how you could have one it differently and what not to do next time. You learn from games, you learn what skills you can use and it will work well, you learn where a good passing area is, you learn where to be on the field, you learn what things you should do next time, and you learn new skills after the game during practice when your coach brings in a new drill or pulls you to the side and corrects something that you are doing or what you should try to do.
3.
This quote really stood out to me, because you don't always have to be the best. You don't have to be better than the rest of your team, you don't have to be better than the best player on the opposite team you play. You just have to put in the extra work and grind during practices and games. You need to always work your hardest to be the best you can be. You always have to be better than what you were the day before, because it shows your team and your coach/coaches that you want to be better and that you're trying and not giving up. You can't ever give up on your team and yourself. You have to work the hardest for everyone and yourself as well.
4.
This quote is very accurate if you ask me. I find this quote very true because when you have talent you can do really well in games and help your team make it through the game to win. But when you're in the playoffs or the championship you can't rely on yourself, you have to make sure you are passing and that you aren't keeping the ball to yourself to show off the skills you have and know. You have to be very smart when it comes to the last bit of time for your season because one wrong move can boot you out quicker than you can blink your eyes. You have to have smart passes, anticipate where the next pass will be, and always make sure you're aware that you are playing as smart as you can because you have to make sure you play smart for you and your team.
5.
As soon as I saw this quote I knew I had to use it because I've always heard this quote from field hockey pages on instagram and I have heard my coaches in the past say it. You always need to anticipate where you think the ball will be next and who the next pass will be to or if you'll be the next place the ball will be. You always need to be in the same area of where the ball is but you need to always know where the ball will be next. It always stands out to your fans, coaches, teammates, and opposite teams when you move around to where the ball looks like it will be next. Because it is an important skill that you have to learn.
6.
I find this quote very relatable and important because I know when I am dribbling down the field or I'm in the circle I need to try and keep my eyes on the goal at all times because when I take my eyes off of it, I get nervous about the people around me and what their next move will be. I feel like a lot of people could relate to that, because it gets harder to shoot for the goal when you have all the obstacles (people) in your way. That's why you do a dodge and shoot, or you run and get ready for a pass!
7.
I like this quote a lot because it's telling you that when you work hard and give it your all at all times you will have good successes. You will win when you put in all the hard work you have practiced in practice and all the work you have put in during games. You always have to play through the sweat and hurt to get to be the best you can be for your team. You can't give up or stop until that last buzzer goes off. A good win means you put in your all to help your team get the win, and if everyone gives it their all at all times that means you will win. You can never give up and you have to work hard, play the whole game, and give more than your body can take. You will never regret anything you did in a game if you put your mind and body into it and didn't give up once.
I decided to choose these quotes because I understand all of them and I feel like they are very important and relatable. I decided to put them in this order because I ranked them by how much I think they are true and relatable.
