There is no need to panic if you're a Colts fan. Despite speculations that the Colts would plummet without Andrew Luck, they have proved to still be relevant in not only their division, but also the AFC. They've jumped out to a 3-2 record, one of their losses coming to the Chargers in an overtime thriller. The way they hung with the Chargers should shed some light on how good they still are. After all, they still have T.Y. Hilton, an elite reciever. They still have Darius Leonard, 2018 defensive rookie of the year. They also still have their defense from a year ago that was ranked eleventh in total performance by nfl.com for 2018.
Jacoby Brissett
Jacoby Brissett is beginning to catch his stride as an NFL starting quarterback. In week 3 against the Falcons, he threw for 310 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
He was among 10 other quarterbacks who cracked 300 yards in week 3 -- a group that includes Patrick Mahomes, Philip Rivers, and Tom Brady. Brissett also cracked the top 10 in yards for week 3. He finished eighth, eight yards shy of Philip Rivers’ performance.
Week 5
Fast Forward to week 5, Jacoby Brissett is tied for the most passing touchdowns entering the week. This statistic went along with the other surprising ones in his early season performance. Despite everything, the Colts were not projected to win their week 5 matchup against the explosive Chiefs led by Patrick Mahomes, the league's leader in passing yards.
The Colts pulled off a shocking upset, holding the Chiefs to just thirteen points. Of those thirteen points, only three were allowed in the entire second half. Their dominating defense sacked Mahomes four times, and pressured him many more.
On the offensive side of things, Marlon Mack starred in a low-scoring game. He ran for 132 yards, his second 100 yard performance of the season. His runs helped the Colts chew up clock and keep the Chiefs offense off the field. His runs also help set up Adam Vinatieri for his four field goals.
The big win against the Chiefs capped off an exceptional early season for the Colts as they headed into their bye week. Indianapolis went in tied for first in the AFC South, with a divisional matchup against the Texans awaiting them in week 7.
