“I wanna be great. I’m going to be great. There’s no doubt about it.” -Derrick Rose
Derrick Rose, once known for the award winning MVP, won the award in 2011 with outstanding numbers of 21.8 PTS, 7.9 AST, and 2.7 DRB per game. The 2012-2013 season came to an end very shortly as Rose faced an ACL injury which left him out for the whole season, the year after his MVP season. In the years after the recovery of the injury, it seemed like Rose fell off the face of the earth, until a shocking 2018-19 season last year with the Minnesota Timberwolves. Last season, Rose averaged 18 Pts, 4.3 AST, and 2.1 DRB per game. With those numbers creeping upon his MVP season numbers, Rose could very easily make a comeback to being an All-Star -- and to a possible MVP year again.
As we all know, Derrick Rose's injury wasn't pretty.
After the injury there are some theories of how he did compared to other players. If you go back and look at Rose's highlights before his injury and watch how he finishes at the basket compared to many other NBA stars, you'll see the Rose would often rise above the other players at the basket (because he could), and then on his finish and landing he would be on only one foot and usually on the ball of his foot. With Rose only landing on one foot that leads all of his body weight onto that one foot, which will lead to a lot of stress on that one leg. After time the legs he repeatedly uses will get worn and, well, we know what will happen eventually.
For the 2019 season, Rose will be playing for the Detroit Pistons and will hopefully have a breakout year.
