As construction is in full swing across the road, many fall sports teams are rebuilding as well.
Nokomis Regional High has some stand out athletes that put a lot of their time and dedication into athletics. Currently, the only team playing “home” is our field hockey team. The warrior field hockey team started out with three tough teams and fell short. They then picked up the intensity and rolled by Oceanside 6-0. The field hockey team has very young talent that includes Freshman Brianna Townsend and Fr. Jenna Baird who have put some key shots in the back of the net to roll by teams. The warrior team is led by Division 1 commit, senior captain, Lauren Burke.
The girls soccer team started out at 0-5 playing some of the toughest teams in the North side of class B. These girls aren’t playing at Nokomis, their home field is 15 minutes away, being played at Somerset Elementary School. This group of girls is led by senior captain, Meagan Whitten who recently scored five quick goals against Lawrence High School to lead them to their first win of the season. Young talent is being built as well including Freshman Camryn King, So. Jordyn Condon, and Fr. Hope Brooks
After the boys started out 0-3, Nick Shaw and Ryan Bell led them to their first win against Hermon High School and it looked like they were going to peak, but then many injuries happened. They currently have five key players out. Their record is 1-5, but should improve with the easier side of their schedule on the way. They also travel to their home games at Somerset Elementary School. The young talent includes Sophomore Mason Hopkins, and Sophomore Ashton Umbrianna.
The football field is in work, just like their team. The boys play their home games at Lawrence High School, where the current coach, Jacob Rogers previously played and coached. In his first season, he coached them to their first playoff game with a record of 6-2. His second season with the warriors, they had a regular season record of 4-4, and won a state title to finish the season 7-4. After that success, they graduated 13 seniors in the 2018 season. As of now, they have young talent showing up because there are multiple injuries coming from the upperclassmen. The young talent comes from Freshman Grady Hartsgrove, Fr. Madden White, and Sophomore AJ Leali. In the future, they will only have one senior to graduate, Keith Lilly.
