The Downfall of Nokomis Football, State Champs to 0-8

Updated: Jan 15, 2020

Going into the 2018 class C football playoffs there was no clear favorite to win the north, but everyone knew Nokomis Regional High was going to be a contender. One year later Nokomis failed to win a single football game and finished their season 0-8 not in a playoff position.

So what happened? Where did everything go wrong? It started with the graduation of 13 seniors, all starters. The inexperience mixed with the lack of size on the lines lead to a very difficult to watch season. Nokomis not only didn’t win a game, but they scored just 4 touchdowns in the entire season most of which coming in garbage time in the end of a blowout game.

Injuries were also a big issue, the losses of seniors Jay Brooks, Beau Briggs, and Shane Shorette among others. By the end of the season the warriors had just 1 remaining senior that was able to play. Nokomis will continue to rebuild their program and hope for another winning season in the coming years.
