The moment that changed everything for David Ortiz was getting shot.


Ortiz was just big chillin sippin on some tequila and guava juice at a Dominican Republic bar. Bang! Bang! Bang! Was the last thing Big Papí heard before his internal organs were obliterated by a Glock 22. Ortiz was rushed to a local hospital where surgeons spent 4 hours performing emergency surgery to save Big Papi’s life.










Ortiz was born on November 18, 1975, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic














In 1996, Ortiz was traded to the Twins where his career really got rolling.










In 2003, Ortiz was traded to the Red Sox, and became a franchise legend.








Ortiz won the MVP award in the 2013 World Series.

After retiring, Ortiz went back to his birthplace, the Dominican Republic.











In the Dominican Republic, Ortiz was shot at a bar after being mistaken for a drug cartel leader.
